RMT Massage Therapy in Newmarket — Therapeutic Care for Pain and Recovery

At Wellness Place, our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) provide therapeutic massage that goes well beyond relaxation. Whether you are managing muscle tension from a demanding job, recovering from an injury, dealing with chronic pain, or looking to support your mental health, our RMTs design each session around your specific needs and health goals.

All massage therapists at Wellness Place are registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and bring clinical expertise to every treatment. We welcome patients from Newmarket, Aurora, Sharon, East Gwillimbury, and across York Region.

What Is Registered Massage Therapy?

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a regulated health profession in Ontario. Registered Massage Therapists complete a minimum 2,200-hour diploma program and pass provincial board examinations before being licensed to practise. Unlike spa massage, RMT sessions are structured around a clinical assessment of your condition and a targeted treatment plan — making them eligible for insurance coverage under most extended health plans.

RMTs use a range of techniques — Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilization, and hydrotherapy — selected based on your assessment and treatment objectives. The goal is not just to feel better during the session, but to produce lasting improvements in tissue health, mobility, and pain levels.

What to Expect at Your RMT Appointment

Your massage therapy session at Wellness Place is tailored to you from the moment you arrive:

  1. Intake and assessment: Your RMT takes a health history, reviews any injuries or conditions, and discusses your goals for the session — whether that is pain relief, recovery, stress reduction, or improved mobility.
  2. Treatment plan: Based on the assessment, your RMT selects the appropriate techniques, pressure levels, and areas to focus on. You are always in control of pressure and focus throughout the session.
  3. Treatment (30, 60, or 90 min): You are comfortably draped throughout. Only the area being treated is uncovered. Your RMT communicates throughout the session and adjusts based on your feedback.
  4. Post-treatment recommendations: Your RMT may suggest self-care — stretches, hydration, heat or ice — to extend the benefits of the session.

Session lengths are 30, 60, or 90 minutes. Frequency depends on your goals — weekly for injury recovery or chronic conditions, monthly for maintenance and stress management.

Frequently Asked Questions About Massage Therapy in Newmarket

A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is a regulated health professional in Ontario, licensed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. RMT sessions involve a clinical assessment, a documented treatment plan, and targeted therapeutic techniques — making them eligible for extended health insurance coverage. Spa massage is unregulated and focused on relaxation rather than clinical outcomes.
Most extended health plans in Ontario cover RMT massage therapy. Coverage amounts, annual limits, and whether a physician’s referral is required vary by plan. We direct bill most major insurers. Check your benefit booklet or call us to confirm your coverage before booking.
It depends on your goals. For injury recovery or chronic pain, weekly or biweekly sessions are often most effective initially. For stress management and maintenance, monthly sessions are typically sufficient. Your RMT will recommend a frequency based on your assessment and budget.
Yes — mild soreness for 24–48 hours after a massage, particularly after deep tissue work, is completely normal. It is similar to post-exercise muscle soreness and indicates that the treatment reached deeper tissue layers. Staying hydrated and applying heat to sore areas can help. Contact us if soreness persists beyond 48 hours.
Yes — prenatal massage by a trained RMT is safe throughout pregnancy and highly beneficial for managing back pain, hip discomfort, sciatic pain, and swelling. Our RMTs use specialized positioning and techniques adapted for pregnancy. We recommend informing us of your pregnancy when booking so we can match you with an RMT experienced in prenatal care.
